The “WASHiriki Project” focuses on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) improvements by promoting
behavior change and solutions adoption. Partnering with Kenyan County Governments, Basic Water
Needs, Aqua Clara Kenya, and Aqua For All, the initiative trains Community Health Workers (CHWs) to
establish and lead WASHiriki Clubs.
These clubs consist of 15-30 members, mainly women, engaging in
weekly meetings covering Household Water Treatment, Storage, Sanitation, and Hygiene. Low-cost
WASH solutions are introduced through CHWs, who earn commissions on sales and recruit members as
sellers.
The project aims to enhance access to WASH products through financing options. WASHiriki
members spread Water, Sanitation & Hygiene awareness and influence others through the “Each 1
Reach 10” campaign, acting as role models and early adopters.
